YDS currently rides in a Diono Rainier in our SUVs. He’s comfy there, and I love the seat. I tried the Rainier in the X3 during our test drive and it didn’t seem like a great fit; however there wasn’t enough time to really do a full install with the AA. There is a lot of discussion in various forums about how this gear does not ever seem to turn all the way around and you can fix it by simply rotating the gear to the unused portion (a potential free fix). I cannot speak to whether that is a reliable long term fix since I did not try that. You can see from my photos however, that it indeed does not look like one side of the gear that still has the light green lubricant on it was ever touched or used by the worm gear,so take that for whatever it’s worth.

My experience (and decision) was that if I was going to spend an afternoon underneath the car removing the actuator motor and taking it apart I did not want to risk the free fix failing at some point and having to do it all over again. I believe it’s well worth the $50 $100 to purchase a new gear and not worry about it for another 80k miles or more. As for why it doesn’t fit I’m not 100% sure what the problem is. But it’s almost like the latches aren’t long enough so when you push them in they can’t reach to latch on. The angle in which the seat would sit on doesn’t seem right either. She never told me why they aren’t compatible, just that the quality control people did tests and that the latch system doesn’t work with certain BMW’s.

Even in traditional American motor companies such as Ford, they are using turbochargers and other lighter but strong materials to produce the more power and efficiency with less engine and therefore less fuel consumption. (For an example, look into the new 2015 mustang. Ford offers the car with an Eco boost Turbo charged I 4 engine, a traditional v 6, and a 5.0 liter v8.) Note the similarity between the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder versions.

A note on the seats: they are some of the finest seats in all of automobiledom! From a comfort point of view there is zero reason to have any concerns, they are better than the Mercedes/BMW/Audi/VW/Infiniti seats in various cars I owned. From a sporting perspective, there is almost zero lateral support, but it is unlikely that your wife will complain about this ;).

I believe that CC is top of his class at what he does. But my take is that athleticism is generally a trait that carries to multiple sports. There are a few narrow combination seats that will last you years longer then the radian. The radian is great for extended rf for heavier kids and okay for ff harness. But the harness and the booster are outgrown at about the same time and the booster has a 50 minimum so she might never weigh enough to fit in the booster mode.

But I do appreciate quality, and when I am blessed to be able to buy nice things for myself, then I feel I should have them. My Beemer has been one of those things.

My wife’s cousin, she was spoiled as a child with wealthy parents and was never told no. She was raised believing she was a princess and now she is out of high school and weight has caught up with her in a big way. What they are going through right now is not easy and unfortunately for the time being some people are getting the short end of the stick while they sort everything out.
